Description: Collaboration with electronic music composer Yara Mekawei. The performance is a sound/visual exploration of the notion of the social bubble that we create to alienate ourselves from a restrictive atmosphere. The shield we create then becomes restrictive in itself. Through banging against the surface I produce a drum base that compensates for the drum base in Mekawei’s music. She records the sounds through the performance, mixes and re-presents them in her sound piece. Furthermore, the repetitive movements become a metaphor for the notion of habitual confinement that I seldom deploy in my projects.
